MiOS Grants
Over the years, cuts to the arts in rural, urban, and suburban schools have become commonplace and are seen, by some, as almost "inevitable." RCAF believes in being proactive with addressing this growing music education crisis facing schools in the greater Rochester region. RCAF supports local schools with "Music in Our Schools" (MiOS) grants to supplement their music programs.
RCAF's MiOS grants are truly a one-of-a-kind grant! Of course, like most school grants, our MiOS grants can be used to bring in guest artists; in particular, artists who focus on instruction in contemporary music. However, our MiOS grants are extremely unique in that they are the only "non-governmental" grants that may be used to limit the impact of budget cuts or supplement a music program's existing funding.
Grant proposals are reviewed by RCAF's Awards & Selection committee and recommended to the board of trustees for approval. Grants are awarded on a "first-come" basis. The board reserves the right to expedite approval of MiOS grant applications that are deemed to have greater urgency than others at the time of submission.
MiOS grants can be used for the following purposes:

- Purchasing new classroom instruments, band/orchestra instruments, technology, sheet music, equipment
- Refunding, or initially funding, programs which are being hindered by budget constraints (*the amount awarded through these grants are contingent on RCAF's available funds.)
